Ruger introduced its Single-Six single action revolver in One of these old Sixes, my old S&W Pre-17 and box of 22LR is a fun way to spend a few hours at the range.RUGER OLD MODEL SINGLE-SIX “MAGNUM ONLY” REVOLVERS I have a new stainless Single Six convertible that cost over twice what one of these did but somehow it rarely makes it to the range. The most I paid for one was $350 for the flatgate, the other two were under $300. Ironically the original black plastic panels have a tendency to turn a chocolate brown color (you can sorta see it in mine) and are not as nice looking as the walnut panels and I bet a lot of original owners ditched their black plastic panels in favor of the nice walnut ones when they came along. I'm not a collector or expert but I believe your '58 would have shipped with the grip panels you see on mine and the walnut panels yours is sporting are later. But they are wonderful shooters and a pleasure to plink with. Mine are all just shooters with plenty of holster wear, a few freckles, some plum color and such and no boxes, papers, etc. I didn't want to be that guy so I sold the '58. I had a 1958 but began to realize I was falling down another collector rabbit hole and would end up being that guy that has a Single Six from every year or something. The one on the top is from 1957 and the flatgate below it is from 1956 (both unconverted). I love those old Single Sixes from the 1950s. The great condition was icing on the cake. Has an even better trigger than the 1960, to boot, and that's saying something. The 1958, though, was just prior to the convertible years so it does, indeed, have the smaller. Been an awesome shooter for me, either way. Whether this gun had the extra 22 mag cylinder and it was lost at some time (common with these old SSs) or whether it was shipped without the mag cylinder, but with the mag bore size, I can't say. To accommodate the magnum, they went to the. Starting in that 1960 time frame, Ruger introduced the Single Six Convertibles, shipping some guns with the extra magnum cylinder, some not. Second, these guns may look identical, but they are different in one essential feature. First, I am a sucker for Old Model Rugers and I just couldn't let this one slip though my fingers. Now, why would I buy two guns that are identical? Couple of reasons.
